Long-term water demand and supply projection for Selangor and the Federal Territory
  • The National Water Resource Council has planned for the overall implementation programme of water source to meet long term demands in Selangor and the Federal Territory until 2050.

  • In line with projected population growth and industrialisation in the State of Selangor and the Federal Territory, water demand is projected to increase at an average rate of 6% into the future.

  • The current water demand in Selangor and the Federal Territory of 2,872 million litres per day (MLD) is likely to double by the year 2010.

  • Current water supply situation is critical since existing treatment plants are already operating at full capacity.

  • Although the Sungai Selangor Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 2 (SSP2) will increase the total production capacity to 3,656 MLD, demand will exceed this increased supply by the year 2003.

  • Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 (SSP3) is required to provide an additional 1,050 MLD of water by 2004.

  • After SSP3, interstate water transfer schemes have been planned to meet future demands.
