Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) fully complies with safety procedures to ensure safety for the public and its workers.
The implementation of Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 (SSP3) is carried out with compliance to safety as stipulated in the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) and Regulations and Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (Act 139) Regulations and Rules - Department of Safety and Health.
SPLASH, in carrying out its construction works, complies with the mandatory safety procedures stipulated by the Ministry of Human Resources under its Department of Safety and Health.
Under this mandatory code of practice, SPLASH places provision of a safe working environment, occupational safety, safe working methods, provision of safety training and good public safety as imperative in its day-today operations. It makes it compulsory that every employee must adhere to the safety and health conduct as required by the laws and its own safety management system.
In addition to this, SSP3 adheres to the MS ISO 9002 quality management system standards in its operations. In its own safety management system, all workers at the worksite are trained and must apply to safety measures and procedures in all areas of construction work and each type of work. This covers, among other construction work aspects, beam launching, crane lifting, welding and cutting, blasting, tunneling, concrete and piling works.
A Safety Health and Environment Committee is responsible for ensuring that safety at the worksite is effectively implemented. The committee comprises Safety Managers and Safety Officers whose task is to implement these safe working practices and also to conduct site safety audits and inspection. Strict check and monitoring on a daily basis will alert of any accidents and any need to develop additional safe work procedures.
Further to this, the state government's consultant KLIAB monitors all aspects of construction and safety of SSP3.
`Total Safety First' is the operational word at the SSP3 worksite. SPLASH does not allow for any degree of lack in this area as it is totally responsible and fully abides to safety compliance as set by the relevant government authorities.

It also takes special care that its work activities do not jeapordise the safety of local residents and the affected communities. Affected communities are informed and briefed prior to commencement and implementation of works so that they too will be extra vigilant while around the work area.
Environmental management is also another priority aspect at the SSP3 worksite. While implementing the project, SPLASH must also adhere to an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) which states a detailed preventive programme to protecting and safeguarding the environment at the SSP3 worksite.

Silt traps are constantly monitored to ensure efficiency throughout stages of construction.

The Environmental Management Plan (EMP), approved by the Department of Environment (DOE) incorporates an environmental monitoring and protection programme that must be carried out on a regular basis as an important and essential part of its construction activities.
Environmental parameters of the EMP are river water quality, silt trap discharge quality, air quality, noise level determination and vibration intensity determinations. Under these parameters, SPLASH must strictly adhere to appropriate pollution control measures at site to abate impacts on the environment.
Monitoring and supervising this environmental management programme are the state government's appointed EIA Consultant (Gunung Ganang) government appointed DOE (Department of Environment) Officer and SPLASH's own appointed EIA Consultant.
(see implementation of EIA conditions)
Each of these consultants will enforce that SPLASH implement the necessary mitigation measures under the EMP, evaluate, improve and further mitigate any environmental impact.
