Kuala Kubu Bharu, March 14
About 2000 people were given tips and strategy on smart water usage during an Open Day visit and exhibition at the Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 1 (SSP1) at Bukit Badong in conjunction with the launching of Selangor Save Water Campaign 2002 by YAB Deputy Menteri Besar of Selangor today.
The SSP1 Open Day and Selangor Save Water Campaign 2002 also signify the importance of public awareness on water conservation and preservation. Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) organised the Open Day as part of their educational activities to teach the public especially the young on water treatment, water usage, water conservation and preservation.
Visitors including students from schools in Bukit Badong were given a tour of the exhibition gallery and demonstrations on water treatment process. The activities carried out during the Open Day were to provide the visitors with instructive exposure on several stages of water treatment before raw water is finally produced into drinking water and supplied to Selangor and Klang Valley.
SSP1 is managed and operated by SPLASH and produces 950 mld of water, among the largest capacities in Selangor at the moment. SPLASH also holds the concession to build, operate and manage SSP3.
When fully complete by 2005, SSP3 will comprise a regulating dam in Kuala Kubu Bharu, a water treatment plant in Rasa with 250 mld capacity and a water treatment plant in Bukit Badong with 800 mld capacity. In total, both SSP1 and SSP3 will provide for 2,000 mld of treated water for residents and industries in Selangor and Klang Valley.
