Kuala Kubu Bharu, 28 August 2001
Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) will award 60 Anugerah Pelajar Cemerlang to primary and secondary students from schools in Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor as part of its Children Education Campaign this year.
The Anugerah Pelajar Cemerlang will present a total of 20 UPSR, 20 PMR and 20 SPM students in Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor with RM50 Cash Awards for achieving academic excellence in their examinations.
The award is one of several components of the SPLASH Children Education Campaign 2001 (SCEC 2001), two others being the GALUS programme and the SPLASH Challenge Debate, to help motivate for education excellence and develop character, mental and physical capability in our young.
"We want to emphasise on the importance of education and knowledge. Learning is a life-long process and it is our responsibility to mould and nurture our children's early learning and developmental process.
"We have initiated more programmes in to our education campaign this year, with objectives to encourage and motivate our young to develop mental and emotional intelligence so that they will do well in their future." Encik Azmi Mat Nor, Chief Executive Officer of SPLASH said at the launch of the SPLASH Children Education Campaign 2001 (SCEC 2001) this morning at Kuala Kubu Bharu.
In addition to the Anugerah Pelajar Cemerlang, SPLASH is also implementing `GALUS' - a motivational programme to help weak students. "In every school, there is a group of students who has the potential to do well, but for reasons like lack of self esteem, confidence or discipline and poor study habits, constantly perform badly and fail in their examinations.
"This is the group of students we want to help motivate and encourage. We want to help develop their mental capacity and capability at an early age, so they will be able to cope with challenges in their growing and even, adult years." he said.
As part of this motivational programme, the company has already sponsored a
3-day 'Program Motivasi Kem Kesedaran Insan UPSR 2001' for 150 UPSR students and will be holding more of such camps in co-operation with the Education Offices of Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor.
Also in implementation, the SPLASH Challenge Debate is starting off its first rounds of preliminaries between secondary schools in the two districts. The final of the debate is scheduled for October this year and will include cash prizes to winning teams and winning schools.
At the launch officiated by YABhg. Datin Seri Zahrah binti Kechik, guests included state government officials, teachers and schoolchildren from 122 participating schools in the SPLASH Children Education Campaign.
Speaking at the launch as officiating VIP, Datin Seri Zahrah called for more corporate care and concern for the young, citing SPLASH's campaign as a positive step to help the young set out in the right direction in life.
She added that inculcating the right values, apart from academic excellence, such as mental, emotional and spiritual strength is also instrumental in developing our young to take on challenges in their future.
The SPLASH Children Education Campaign 2001 (SCEC 2001) is a continuation of SCEC 2000 initiated last year to educate schoolchildren on the importance of water usage and water conservation through activities like essay and drawing competitions and sports activities.
While emphasis is on developing educational excellence in this year's programmes, schoolchildren will still get to enjoy fun activities like nature study trips and excursions, river expeditions, environmental and conservation projects to enhance their awareness and understanding of environmental matters.
A total of 122 schools in Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor are participating in the SPLASH Children Education Campaign 2001 (SCEC 2001), with the co-operation of the District Offices and the District Education Offices.
