ORANG ASLI COMPENSATED FOR LOSS OF CROPS

In a ceremony held on 25 May 2000, the Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli (JHEOA) paid out RM6.9 million as crop compensation to 137 Orang Asli whose orchards and crops in Kg Gerachi and Kg Pertak were affected by the building of the Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 (SSP3).

Included in these 137 were Orang Asli who have moved off to living in other communities but still have crops in Kg Gerachi and Kg Pertak.

Selangor Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports, Science, Technology and Environment, Datuk Ch'ng Toh Eng handed out cheques to each of these Orang Asli.

The JHEOA had, prior to awarding this compensation, visited crop sites with the Orang Asli and Batins and the Valuation Department to ascertain the number, age, type, maturity and yield of the trees.
