NEW KG. GERACHI - COMPLETED AND HANDED OVER TO THE KG. GERACHI COMMUNITY

The resettling of 41 families of Kg. Gerachi in to new and better homes, as part of the State Government's resettlement programme for SSP3, is now complete.

The building of the new village equipped with piped water and electricity and comprising 41 homes and a community centre was completed by April 2001. The 41 families shifted in to their new village by May 2001.

The Kg. Gerachi community can now enjoy a modern living lifestyle and convenience of community facilities (community hall, balai gerakan, surau, clinic, sundry shops, kindergarten and a football field) while still enjoying familiar environs of Sungai Selangor and the surrounding forests.

In addition to their homes and community centre, the families are also being provided with dusun land and oil palm plantations.

The Orang Asli Resettlement and Compensation Package for both Kg. Gerachi and Kg. Pertak was drawn up in consultation and agreement by the Orang Asli Resettlement Special Committee to ensure that the livelihood and income of the Orang Asli communities are further improved with the relocation of their homes into new settlements.
